Effective date: October 15, 2026
1. Agreement and scope
These Terms of Use govern your use of the Informed Texan website, accounts, content, and voter-guide tools provided by Informed Texan ("we," "us"). By using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
2. Civic information, not endorsements
Informed Texan is a nonpartisan information service. We do not endorse candidates. Policy alignment measures similarity between your answers and documented candidate positions; it is not our opinion, a recommendation, or a prediction of future conduct. Evidence confidence and standards of conduct are separate from policy alignment. You remain responsible for your decisions.
Content is for general information, not legal, financial, or other professional advice. Information may be incomplete, outdated, disputed, or incorrect. AI-assisted editorial material may contain errors. Clearly labeled demonstration content is illustrative and must not be treated as verified candidate information. See our methodology for limitations.
3. Verify election information
Informed Texan is not an election authority and does not register voters, issue ballots, or guarantee your ballot, eligibility, deadlines, polling place, or voting requirements. Confirm election details directly with the relevant official authority. Location estimates and unverified ballot information are not substitutes for official records.
4. Accounts and security
Accounts are optional for core use. You must be at least 13 to create an account and have any permission required by law. Provide accurate account information, protect your sign-in credentials, and do not share or impersonate another person’s account. Notify us of suspected unauthorized access through our contact form. We may restrict or suspend access for misuse, security risks, or legal requirements.
5. Permitted and prohibited use
You may browse, compare sources, and generate and share your personal voter guide for lawful purposes. Do not misrepresent Informed Texan as endorsing a candidate, alter content in a misleading way, violate others’ rights, submit unlawful or malicious content, bypass access controls, disrupt the service, or use automated access that interferes with operation or extracts private information.
6. Intellectual property and submissions
Informed Texan’s branding, original content, design, and software are owned by Informed Texan or its licensors and protected by applicable law. Subject to these terms, we grant a limited, nonexclusive, revocable license to use the service for personal, noncommercial civic-information purposes. Other uses require permission unless permitted by law. Third-party source material remains the property of its owners; citations do not transfer rights.
You retain rights in material you submit. By sending a correction or other submission, you grant us a nonexclusive license to use, reproduce, and review it as necessary to investigate, operate the service, and publish relevant factual corrections. You must have the right to submit it. This does not authorize publication of your contact information or override our Privacy Policy.
7. Third-party services and availability
Links to election authorities, publishers, and other providers are offered for reference. We do not control their content, availability, or practices; their terms apply when you use their services. We may update, change, or discontinue features, and cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. Keep your own copies of guides you wish to retain.
8. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available," without express or implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, noninfringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation. We do not guarantee the completeness, timeliness, or reliability of any content or alignment result. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; those exclusions apply only where lawful.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Informed Texan and its personnel and service providers are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or loss of data, profits, or opportunities arising from use of or inability to use the service. These limitations do not exclude liability that applicable law does not permit us to limit, including applicable liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, or gross negligence, and do not restrict nonwaivable consumer rights.
10. Changes, disputes, and contact
We may revise these terms and will update the effective date. Material changes will receive additional notice where required by law. Continued use after revised terms take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. These terms are subject to applicable law and do not require mandatory arbitration or waive a right to bring a claim in a competent court.
For questions, permissions, or concerns, use our contact form. Please describe the concern so we can attempt to resolve it.
